Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson is the daughter of British lawyers Jacqueline Luesby (born in Paris) as well as Chris Watson (born in Paris). As a young girl, she moved from London to Oxfordshire where she attended the Dragon School. When she was six years old, Emma was aware she was going to become an actor and for several years, she studied at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theatre school in which she was taught performing and singing. She had already performed in a variety of Stagecoach or school shows before she turned ten. The casting process began in 1999 for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was found by agents via their Oxford teacher. After eight consistent auditions producer David Heyman told Emma and co-applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been cast for the roles of the three main characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. Emma's first appearance on the big screen took place in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone that was released in the year 2001. It was also one of the top-rated films during 2001. The opening weekend and day sales were record-breaking. Critics were impressed with the movie and its performances. The Daily Telegraph, a popular British newspaper, was awed by her for her exceptional performance. Emma received the Young Artist Award as the Leading Young Actress for an Feature Film. The actress was recognized five times in recognition of her performance in the movie.
